Intellectual Robbery Part Deux, or It's Day One Of Getting Serious And I'm Already Procrastinating
So with my 24/torture column scuttled even before the research stages, I decided for the debut of The Marchand Chronicles upon a complete reckoning of Rathergate, from the original fraudulent story to the bloggers' exposé to the Rather stonewalling to the Thornburgh/Boccardi report and how, every step of the way, the regular guys in pajamas won the day, made CBS pay, and other subordinate clauses that rhymed.I made it past the research stage, too. Into pre-drafting, where I let the information and structure of the piece simmer in my head. Kinda like editing before writing. Then John Podhoretz wrote "Political Bias? What Political Bias?" for The Weekly Standard. And — of course — it's brilliant, hitting every point I would have touched upon and then some.
Sigh. Once again, I've concocted a fantastic recipe only to find that Emeril's already using it. BAM! go the pieces of my shattered heart. (Actually, Emeril's not my style. More like Hog On Ice. Reminds me, gotta link him.)
But back on the horse I mount. Got another idea. And it's good. Real good. But I've just been called into the day job. Which means Opening Day has been postponed; the ribbon-cutting ceremony pushed back because I can't reach my scissors. Expect it very late tonight/early tomorrow morning, or possibly tomorrow outright as a joint release with the debut of RE.
You brilliant authors better not steal my ideas for that, or I'll never get off the ground.
